A Spanking Writer is Born

I was a dreamy child– I always had a fantasy story developing in my head. It usually involved princesses, or girls with psychic abilities and ALWAYS involved her getting at least one spanking.  It wasn’t till I was in my twenties that I realized that not everyone runs around with these little stories brewing in their heads.

I have also always been a writer, but I would never have dreamed of writing those stories down– they were too…um, embarrassing, I guess.

I graduated with a bachelor’s in creative writing from a liberal arts college that taught me that genre fiction was bad.  Genre fiction includes sci-fi, romance, mystery– you know, the stuff that actually sells and pays for the rest of the books to be on the shelf.  We were taught that only Literary Fiction (say it with your back teeth clenched to get the full Scottsdale effect) was of value.  So I graduated and promptly stopped writing creatively.  Instead, I employed my degree as a technical writer (yawn) for thirteen years.

Last summer a friend of mine lent me a romance novel for a plane ride and I was hooked.  I decided it was time for me to write a romance.  The trouble was, all the romances in my head have spankings in them and I quickly found out that publishers will no longer accept spankings in mainstream romance novels.  Sigh.  I wrote the story anyway, and buttoned down the spanking aspects as best I could.  Half way through the process of writing it, I stumbled across Blushing Books and realized I had found my niche.  Spanking Romance!  What a concept.  I put the buttoned down story on ice and wrote a quick novella in a week.  Two weeks later it was published!  I was ecstatic!  Tickled pink!  Delighted!  

Now I’m simultaneously working on four manuscripts– some more mainstream, some more fetish.  I can’t wait to see where this will all lead…
