I just read Maintenance Night by Trent Evans, and let me tell you– this book had me panting, right from the start. Take a read for yourselves:
“You aren’t shaving often enough,” he said, leaning forward, staring at her mound. He looked up at her. “Do we need to go back to our schedule?”
When he’d first ordered her to start shaving her pubic hair, she’d resisted, always looking upon a bald pussy as somehow dirty or slutty. It made her uncomfortable.
He’d offered to help her with it, and the first couple of times it was one of the most erotic things they’d ever done – her thighs widespread over the arms of the chair as he used a brush and foam to soap up her wiry thatch of pubic hair. Her pussy had been a seething ocean of lust by the time he was finished with her.
Eventually, it had become more work and less enjoyable. He’d ceased doing it himself, and expected her to keep herself scrupulously smooth for his daily inspections. She’d asked to use hair removal cream or to have it removed permanently with laser treatments, but he demanded she do it via shaving. He wanted her daily shaving ritual to remind her of whom that particular part of her anatomy belonged to, and when she failed in that duty, she’d be punished. The first time she’d taken six with his heavy oak paddle, she’d resolved never to let so much as a single hair grow there again, but now she’d failed in that, too.
He scratched a fingernail though the fine stubble. “Maybe I need to punish this too? Is that what it‘ll take to get it through to you that I want this pussy smooth?”
“No, Sir. Please.” Just the thought of his flogger slapping down onto the tender flesh between her thighs sent her trembling anew. He’d never done it but he’d threatened, and she had no doubt he was seriously considering it.
Not for the first time, she berated herself for biting off a fuck-ton more than she could chew. Giving her loving husband ownership of her body, while making her cunt melt, sometimes had a (painful) downside.
She winced as his palm slapped her thigh, the heat radiating outward. He straightened and said, “Get on with it, girl. I don’t have time to flog that cunt for you today.” He winked at her. “Maybe next time, though.”
Troy returned to his perch on the ottoman, wagging his finger at her to proceed. Lacey shuddered, pulling the tank top over her head, her full breasts bouncing as they came free of the restrictive clothing. She clasped her trembling hands behind her head, careful to keep her elbows back to ensure he had an unobstructed view of her charms.
Her nipples pebbled into aching stones under his gaze, her thigh-high stockings her only covering left. He regarded her unhurriedly, her nearly naked body his to admire at his leisure.
“Alright, get over my lap.” He pointed to his thighs, that familiar coldness hardening his visage once more, and she obeyed immediately, knowing her prompt cooperation was the only shred of hope she had that he might go easier on her.
Lacey tried to ignore her mischievous inner voice insisting she didn’t want him to go easy on her. Ever.
His strong hands clasped her hips as he took his time adjusting her position, ensuring he had her exactly as he wanted as his hard cock dug insistently into her hip. He moved her around as if she weighed nothing, making her feel like a plaything for his enjoyment.
You’re a toy, slut.
His hands, deceptively gentle, circled over the plump moons of her ass, readying her soft skin for what was to come. Fingertips eased between her cheeks, brushing over her anus, and she wriggled at the intimate invasion.
Fingers entwined themselves in her damp hair and yanked her head up and back, forcing an animal noise from her as the pain flared in her scalp.
“Keep still Lacey.” He shook her head, a small, quick movement. ”I shouldn’t have to tell you this.”
She stilled, though her heart jack-hammered in her chest.
“Good,” he murmured, his hands returning to caress her buttocks, squeezing her lush flesh in one hand as the other slipped between her thighs.
“Oh God, Troy,” she moaned.
His hand slapped against her swollen labia with a wet smack. “Keep that mouth shut Lacey. Unless you need to cry out, you keep it zipped. I’ll gag you if you don’t.”
Knowing he preferred her silence didn’t help when his cruel hand crashed down over and over – asking her to be quiet during a spanking was like asking water to flow uphill.
His hands stilled, one palm stretched over a cringing cheek, the other clasping her waist. She froze, the tension crackling through her limbs. The room was nearly silent, only the faint hum of the refrigerator’s compressor interrupting the almost dead quiet.
“I’m waiting Lacey.”
“Please spank me, Sir.”
Q & A with Author Trent Evans
This story actually came into being as sort of an accident. I typically will come up with characters first, then throw them together in a situation and let the story play out. I hadn’t actually set out to write a domestic discipline story, as I wanted to make sure I’d also conveyed the caring and tenderness between these two people, both of whom are very much in love. But the interaction between the two main characters just ended up with that DD feel to it. Rather than fight it, I just went where the story took me. The end result is what I’d call a domestic discipline story overlaid with a serious streak of sadomasochism .
Renee Rose: What is your favorite story/book that you have ever written and why?
Trent Evans: This is a really difficult question to answer! There is a WIP I am still plugging away on that is probably my favorite overall. It’s a menage with seriously over-the-top levels of BDSM, but to me it hits all the right notes, emotionally and sexually. But the readers will be the final arbiters of that once it’s released. Readers rule:)
Of the books I’ve published thus far, I think A Message of Loveis probably closest to my heart because of the emotional resonance of the story. It’s sad, arousing, and ultimately, uplifting. It hardly sells, but nonetheless, I’m still very glad I wrote it.
Renee Rose: How many books have you written? Are they all spanking fiction?
Trent Evans: I have one novelette (think short story on steroids), a novella, and a novel already published. I have another short story doing the submissions rounds (haven’t heard back on that one yet), and another soon to be published novella that’s currently in edits.
All but one of them would be classified as spanking fiction, some with heavier S&M elements/themes. The novel, A Lady and a Maid,is a dark fantasy with some fairly edgy and graphic BDSM (including spanking). I have several other books that are written, but either need significant editing and/or expansion, or require entire redrafts. I’m not sure if all of those will ever see the light of day, but at least some of them will.
Renee Rose: Do you see a difference between spanking and BDSM fiction? If so, can you define it?
Trent Evans: IMO spanking fiction is a sub-genre of BDSM erotica. That said, I think there is certainly a difference between spanking fiction and BDSM fiction. I like to think of spanking (and spanking fiction) as a gateway “drug” that may or may not lead a person deeper into the harder stuff. It’s very accessible for the general erotica and/or romance reader, quite common (in both fiction and real life), and not particularly shocking to most people anymore.
The definitions are of course (like so much else) quite subjective. In my view, spanking fiction is a style that focuses predominantly on spanking or other forms of corporal punishment as an adjunct to, or (in some cases) a replacement for the sexual activity. I happen to much prefer both spanking and sex to be included in my fiction, but that’s just me;)
BDSM fiction is much more broad, and encompasses an absolutely dizzyingarray of activities. There are many sub-genres of BDSM fiction that have developed, but overall I would say that a story that includes a variety of relationships that incorporate unequal power dynamics as the primary focus, could be categorized as BDSM fiction. Again, there is no right or wrong answer here, but this is roughly how I would differentiate the two forms of fiction.
Renee Rose: How long have you been writing spanking/bdsm fiction?
Trent Evans: I’ve been writing little stories or vignettes for quite a long time, actually. I think I wrote the first one at maybe age 12 or 13 (I can hear the shocked gasps now :), but those were just essentially jotting down of fantasies or themes that stuck with me. I don’t think I started writing anything that had any sort of narrative form until probably about 14 or 15.
I have a funny story about this. My little brother (he’s about a year younger) once found a notebook of mine that contained some of these jottings. I think I may have been 15 at the time. He confronted me and asked what the hell that shit was. I was of course, still deep in denial about my kink proclivities, so in a panic I told him I’d found the notebook on the side of the road.::: facepalm :::
I’m not positive he bought it at the time, but it’s never come up since. . . and he still has no real idea how much of a perv his big brother really is 🙂
Renee Rose: Are you okay in your kink?
Trent Evans: Up until a few years ago, the honest answer to this would have been ‘not fully’. I still have days (usually when I write a really, reallydark passage in a book) where I wonder just what the fuck is wrong with me. I would venture to guess most people with a kinky bent have similar moments of self-doubt.
However, with time, and an honest appraisal of ourselves, we can come to understand and accept the way we’re put together. I’ve accepted that I’m (very) kinky, and I no longer beat myself up about it. As long as we aren’t hurting anyone else against their will, or being self-destructive, there is really nothing wrong with us. We’re just different. It’s not completely accurate to equate being kinky with being gay, but I think the comparison of the two groups does provide us with some insight; in both instances, I believe the vast majority of the people in either group are simply wired to be who they are.
Being kinky is not an aberration — it’s a variation. Be at peace with it:)
Renee Rose: What do you like to see in spanking fiction?
Trent Evans: So, on a really base, lustful dude level, I love stories with real women. I love long, descriptive passages of punishments. I especially like spankings/CP that incorporate the emotions and psychology involved. Shame, humiliation, and objectification can all be very hot too, if written well. I very much enjoy the exploration of the various permutations of consent (or non-consent as the case may be). This lends such an energy and danger to a narrative, that it can be akin to pouring kerosene on a fire — but again, only if written well.
Getting into her head adds so muchto the festivities. I like variety in the stories, but I love a nice round luscious ass; I believe that’s a requirement in order to get your spanko card. BUT, I love other kinds of female bodies, too. Okay, I just love females, period.
Now, I’ll stop being a crass male and answer this a bit more maturely:) This is going to seem a little odd coming from a guy who writes smut, but the number one thing I like to see in spanking fiction is that emotional connection. It doesn’t necessarily have to be rainbows and unicorns, or lovey-dovey feelings either (though I certainly like that as well). It can be a dark emotional tumult that serves as the impetus, the beating heart of the story.
I also love to see authors pushing boundaries, and making people downright uncomfortable. My friend Sadey Quinn does this admirably well in her smoking hot Rock Creek BDSM novels (Under Orderis the first one in the series). She has a tale to tell (and tell it she does!), and she says fuck all to what other people think is the “right” way to tell it. I love her stuff.
Writers like Alice Liddell, Anneke Jacob and Carolyn Faulkner are similarly fearless. They like what they like, and they take us on that harrowing journey with them whether we’re ready for it or not. There are tons of other writers like this that I could mention, but in the interests of brevity I will limit it to these few. Maybe I should do a blog post on this subject…
Renee Rose: What’s your take on consensual vs. non-consensual spankings in fiction?
Trent Evans: I love them both, equally. Fantasy is the one place we can explore non-con themes safely (and the only place we can do it legally or morally). I think there is plenty of room for both — sometimes even in the same book.
I believe readers need to be assured that just because they may be turned on by non-con spanking, it doesn’t meant that they want to be brutalized themselves, or that they as people are somehow depraved or sick. It’s just fantasy.
Of course, a potential reader needs to be warned if there are non-consensual spankings in a book; some people just don’t like it, and will react extremely negatively if they’re surprised with it. Most of my stuff is essentially consensual, but a few of my works-in-progress are decidedly not…
Renee Rose: What traits makes a hero strong to you?
Trent Evans: This another very subjective question, but I will give you what I want to see. I need to see a hero that is not afraid to stand up to a woman, to call her on her bullshit — in essence, to be a dominant man. This is NOT saying I need a hero to be a chauvinist pig. But a good hero is at least politically incorrect, at times:)
In order to have a D/s relationship, the man needs to establish dominance over his woman. Psychological dominance is just as important as physical dominance in D/s, and a hero needs to be capable of accomplishing both.
Most of all, I like a hero that loves and protects his heroine. This can be in a myriad of forms. I love Cherise Sinclair’s blatant, out in the open love just as much as I enjoy the subtle, nuanced expressions of love between Anders and Maia in Anneke Jacob’s As She’s Told. That emotional connection with the heroine, in whichever form it takes, is key for me.
Renee Rose: What makes your heroines appealing?
Trent Evans:I like to see strong, but vulnerable women. Vulnerability to me is like a red cape to a bull to me; I find vulnerability to be a huge turn-on. I don’t fully understand it, really, but when I see it written well? Trent=hooked.
I really enjoy a heroine that’s attractive, but doesn’t realize how attractive she really is. How hot is it when a heroine is forced (either figuratively or literally) to reveal the seething cauldron of lust she really hides behind her calm facade? How she is forced to see herself for the sexual being she is, the hero helpless to resist her luscious, curvaceous body?
Haughty attitudes and out of control egos are great for female villains, but I can’t stand them in heroines. I love a heroine who is struggling within herself.A heroine who is shocked by the depths of her depraved desires is like catnip to me — I can’t get enough of that! Stories where the hero acts as a mere catalyst for change in the heroine are the most effective for me. Just as in D/s, where the sub is the center of attention, I think the woman/heroine in spanking fiction should be too. She’s what most interests me (for obvious reasons ) and as such I like to see her be the focus.
Renee Rose: Are you like any of your heros?
Trent Evans: This is a very tricky question to answer. I think every writer puts at least a tiny bit of themselves into many of their characters. I’m no different in that. There are parts of me in both Jacob in A Message of Love and Troy in Maintenance Night. I pride myself on being very emotionally open and honest — I don’t see how you can’t be if you expect to succeed in a D/s relationship. In Jacob you have a man who is shattered by the death of his submissive wife. He’d given everything to her, been totally open to her, and when she died, he’d lost it all. The story just hints at the underlying issues with Jacob though, which is why a sequel (of sorts) is on the way.
I suppose I do have some similarities to Troy too in that he, like me, does enjoy inflicting pain on a submissive. Yes, I will admit that I’m a sadist:) I know that scares some people who don’t really understand what that means — and I’m okay with that. Just because I’m a sadist though, does NOT mean I would ever inflict pain on the unwilling. In fact, I’m actually a very gentle, loving guy. . . outside the bedroom. That’s probably TMI, so I will leave it there. If you want to know more, my blog has some in-depth explanations on my thoughts on kink (or you can just ask me).
Renee Rose: Are you working on a new book right now? If so, tell me about it.
Trent Evans: I am always working on several stories at once. I’ve found that I need to cycle through them in order to keep my mind fresh, and the ideas coming. I’m not sure why it works, but it does for me. Right now I’m working on:
– A quasi-sequel to A Message of Love, that tells the story of Jacob and Sierra. M/F, Spanking, BDSM, TPE w/ some paranormal.
– A full length sequel to A Lady and a Maid. Long overdue for me, and very, very dark. This will probably be the harshest content I’ve published thus far. M/F, F/F, BDSM, spanking, Dubious consent, Non-consent, sexual slavery, pony play.
– A full-length BDSM menage. This will be my first official erotic romance — a departure for me. MFM, Spanking, BDSM, TPE, slavery, consensual-nonconsent
Renee Rose: Are you presently in a spanking relationship? If so, do you have maintenance night? 🙂
Trent Evans: A friend of mine recently shared her sexual “bucket list” with me. It was eye-opening to say the least! But it got me thinking about my own bucket list. A relationship with maintenance spankings would be veryhigh on my list:) Unfortunately, I am not currently in a spanking relationship.
Renee Rose: What is your favorite spanking instrument?
Trent Evans: Well, I prefer the hand to anything else, but when it comes to instruments it would have to be the cane. I love the fear it invokes in a woman about to whipped with it. I love how easy it is to control — it can cause agony, but you can control and focus said agony to get the exact result you want. It’s got a certain “x-factor” to it that I can’t really put a finger on. . . all I know is that I like it:) That said, I know I need a LOT more practice with it…
