I’m pleased to welcome Leigh Smith (she’ll always be Sunnygirl to me) to visit and share from her new spanking romance Taming Maria!
Renee graciously invited me to tell you about my newest release, Taming Maria. The story is set in the late 30’s and early 40’s of the last century in the Monterey Valley of California, one of my favorite places in the world. Maria is the headstrong spoiled daughter of Diego Bartola whose early ancestors settled this area of California. Juan Cabrillo is the youngest son of another old California family and has been in love with Maria since they were children. This is the tale of their life and love.
While walking past her father’s study, Maria overheard Juan asking for her hand in marriage. She burst in.
“How dare you assume I would have you as my husband? Did you not think it would be best to ask me first and then ask for my father’s permission once you had my answer?”
Diego Bartolá watched this scene unfold. He knew Maria’s temper and wanted to see how Juan would deal with this behavior from his tempestuous daughter.
“Hello, Señorita Bartolá. How are you this fine day?” Juan asked, completely ignoring her questions.
“Don’t you Señorita Bartolá me, how dare you not answer my questions? I won’t be ignored,” she stormed
“I don’t know what you mean. I am not ignoring you. I simply said hello and inquired of your well-being.”
She walked over to him and raised her hand to slap his face. He grabbed her hand and held it.
“May I suggest you not carry through with that impulse,” he said in a calm voice but with a steel edge to it. He continued to exert pressure on her hand.
“Let me go, you fool,” she hissed the words at him.
“I will let you go when you have calmed yourself and behave as you should. I do not wish to listen to your vitriol and I want an apology.”
“Papa, he is hurting me. Tell him to stop.”
“I do not wish to interfere Maria Elena. If he is to be your husband, you must learn to obey. Lord knows, you never listened to me. Maybe he will have better luck,” Diego replied.
“He’s not going to be my husband. He hasn’t even asked me,” she replied to her father.
“I am waiting for an apology,” Juan told her.
“You will be waiting a long damn time,” Maria told him
“Such foul language coming from such a sweet mouth, you should be ashamed.”
“Don’t you dare chastise me; you are not my lord and master.”
In Taming Maria, the long awaited marriage between Maria Elena Bartolá and Juan Antonio Cabrillo eventually takes place. The business interests of the Bartolá’s include cattle, horses, and farming, with the Cabrillo family focusing on the raising and breeding of cattle. The story is set in California during the 1940’s, amidst a backdrop of ranches and vineyards and two childhood sweethearts destined to become lovers. But the handsome Juan is fully aware that his bride-to-be is headstrong and tempestuous. It seems the only sure way to tame her is to give her a well-deserved spanking! The couple face hardship, adventure, personal tragedy and long periods of separation … but there are some things in life that are worth waiting for.
